Bali Indonesia Part 1 - Southern Bali

We've Landed! After an insanely long final day in Singapore (we miss you Singapore) we have finally made it to Bali. Our flight was at 5am so we pulled an all nighter and left for the airport at 2am. The flight was horribly uncomfortable but luckily only lasted 2.5 hours. After flying over some beautiful volcanos and beaches (*HINT* Sit on the right hand side of the plane flying from Singapore to Bali, learned this from people we met at the hostel in Singapore) we touched down.

We picked up a new sim card and fought our way through the most aggressive taxi drivers yet. So far on our trip the taxi drivers would leave you alone once you said no. Not here though...we had one dedicated soul follow us around for a good 20 minutes as we got the phone working and found our Uber. After that it was off to the Radisson in Bali. We found this hotel about a week before arriving and ended up changing all of our reservations because of it. This resort cost about 1/4 of the normal reward points (9000 vs ~40000) so we can enjoy free living at huge high end resort...not to shabby.

Sadly today there were terror attacks in Jakarta Indonesia. We are quite removed over here in the rows and rows of resorts but it was definitely felt by the locals and a sad day for everyone.

Debra and I spent the day napping and exploring the resort. We enjoyed a set menu vegetarian meal on the beach along side a few delicious fruit cocktails. We then snuck into the closed pool to pretend we were hiding from anyone that walked by. A pretty easy day after a long night of traveling.

The length of this trip has been hitting me more and more these days. When we set out to plan a 4+ month trip it seemed like an easy task. This trip is nothing like a normal week or 2 week vacation. Booking accommodation/transport/activities in order for everything to line up is a full time job. The blog has been slowly getting put on the back burner as our main focus is seeing and doing everything we can in each country and fully/truly experiencing and appreciating what we are doing and where we are. Bali falls nicely about halfway though our trip and should give us some nice relaxation and catchup time.

..... Three days later ....

We spent the last 3 days being total resort bums. It was amazing. Our first full day consisted of sleeping in, lunch by the pool, swimming, drinks by the pool, dinner, and bed. To elaborate....we woke up at 12:30. Ordered nachos and margaritas. Beer buffet (1 hour of as much Bali Hai as you can drink for ~12$, I got 6 down) order 9 more margaritas over the next unknown about of time, stumble to the room, order room service, bed.

We spent the following day recovering and updated the blogs design (hope you like it). Walked across the street to the Tao restaurant for another great meal (no drinks this time). Back to swim by the pool...movie and bed.

Party at the hotel next door. We 100% thought it was a wedding. Note: Dance floor, chef's tent, GIANT lit up letters that said "LOVE" and then we saw the powerpoint slide...it was an Indian company retreat!

Then it was time to say goodbye to our nice free accommodation and move to the relaxed town of Ubud!
