What's In Her Bag: Packing List for SE Asia

Everything that we are packing!

Everything that we are packing!

Roy and I are going on our 4+ month SE Asia Trip to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos! From the beginning we agreed that we would only be traveling with carry on backpacks. We both loved the idea of having everything with us and not having to deal with checking bags.

We both bought the Osprey Porter bags and let me tell you! I can't go back to just packing in a regular backpack. My list of things I wanted in a bag for this 5 month trip were:

  1. Opens all the way up. I hate having to pull everything out just to reach that one shirt thats at the bottom of the bag and then repack everything again. CHECK
  2. Doesn't have a lot of straps and buckles and things hanging off that can get caught on everything. All those straps and buckles on other bags are great for camping but so annoying when you are going through city life and airports all the time with this bag. CHECK
  3. Light weight and comfy. So comfy! CHECK
  4. Not to big. Honestly I didn't even need all the things I packed in this bag, can you imagine if I had an even bigger bag?! CHECK

So I 100% recommend this bag!! Roy and I also each packed a smaller daypack (I also have a purse that I put in my daypack occasionally). So, here is everything that I am bringing on our 4+ month SE Asia Trip!!!

Clothes and Shoes

  •  1 maxi dress
  • 1 maxi skirt
  • 2 pairs of shorts
  • 1 pair of black work out capris
  • 1 pair of jeans

  • 3 plain t-shirts
  • 3 tank tops
  • 1 long sleeve jean shirt
  • 1 light weight sweater
  • 1 rain coat
  • 1 small packable jacket

  • 3 sports bras, 2 bras (one regular, one strapless), 12 pairs of underwear (As much as I wish I could be, I’m just not one of those travelers who takes 3 pairs… I like fresh underwear)
  • 4 bikinis
  • 2 pairs of ankle socks
  • 1 pair of smart wool socks (comfy on the plane)

  •  1 pair of cheap flip flops (old navy pair that has last 3 years some how…)
  • 1 pair of dressier sandals
  • 1 pair of running shoes

Toiletries and Make Up Bag

This is pretty much the same set up I take when Roy and I are living in hotels for work so it was pretty easy to pack.

  • 1 toiletry bag
  •  1 make up bag

Other

  • One very inclusive medicine bag. Roy and I picked out what we wanted and put it all into an old make up bag. (Pepto chewables, dayquil, nightquil, band-aids, etc.)
  • An empty packing cube
  • Lonely planets and dive log
  • My One line a day, 5 year journal. Roy's sister Claire told us about these and we now love them! They are journals where you write a small entry for the same day (ie January 5th) on the same page every year for 5 years. It's so neat being able to read back on what you did that day the year before.
  • Mini Boggle!!!
  • Contact solution
  • Headphones and earplugs
  • Assorted hand and face wipes

There are a few other things that we packed such as cameras, my instax camera (that I'm in love with), and my note 5 cellphone (which we use for so many of our pictures and all of our navigation) that we will hopefully do a technology specific post about sometime.

I think we did a pretty good job of packing but I think we will learn along the way whether we need some of the things we packed or if there are things we wish we had.

Is there anything that you would have packed or left at home if you were headed out on our trip?
